Fuel to the Fire

In case anyone wants more evidence of a still-sexist scientific institution, you will find yet another rallying point in Science’s recent special on the “data deluge.”

In “Metaknowledge,” an article reviewing the burgeoning growth of knowledge about knowledge, the authors use a hypothetical situation in which a new graduate student is pegged as much less meta than a “leading scientist”  when it comes to knowing. And… you got it, the leading scientist is a “he” – the student, a “she.” In the authors’ defense, perhaps they were just going for an accurate representation of what sex you are more likely to find in which position.
